Writing confusions
This is Shafi Ulla, a knife sharpener vendor on bicycle. He is kind and jolly. He is 55 years old and working as knife sharpener from past 30 years. His origin is Andhra Pradesh, India. But he came Bangalore after his marriage in year 1988. He has 3 daughters and 2 sons all are in Andhra Pradesh at his home town. He was so found of his work. When I asked him how many knifes he sharps in a day.
He replied “nearly 100 knifes daily”. I again asked- “what is the price?”
Shafi replied – “Ten rupees. I earn almost 1000 rs daily. But not enough. When I came here I earned 2-3 aana ( 1/8th fraction of Indian rupee) daily. And I was doing fine. Ab paise me barkat nahi rahi (smiled).”
His smile has peace which he maintained with this life. I don’t know anyone close to me who has that magnificent smile.
